쇼와 3년, 관동군의 모략으로 장작장이 폭사했지만, 그의 손가락에는 2억엔이나 하는 세계 최대의 흑진주 반지가 끼워져 있었다. 그 반지를 손에 들고 귀국한 것은 살아남은 이등병산 모리 고헤이였다. 그 고헤이는 76세로 죽었지만, 후처의 마츠코에게 「만탁」이라고 말해 남긴다. 그것이 반지의 존재를 나타내는 것 같다….
