마사아키는 어렸을 때 어머니와 헤어진 이래 계속 아버지와 둘이서 살아왔다. 정명의 기억 속 어머니 에마는 상냥하고 아름다웠다. 그리고 때는 지나, 마사아키가 25세의 생일을 맞이한 날, 어머니로부터 편지가 도착했다. 거기에는 20년 만에 만나고 싶다고 기록되어 있었다. 마사아키는 기꺼이 만나기로 결정했다. 재회의 장소는 옛날 부모와 자식 3명으로 갔던, 어느 온천지였다. 이때의 정명은 어머니에 대한 동경이 연애 감정으로 바뀌고 있는 것에 자신도 아직 깨닫지 못했다.
