DESCRIPTION
Around Asakusa at the end of the Taisho era. There is a man named Saburo Goda (Renji Ishibashi) who crawls around the attic of an old boarding house in search of secret and solitary pleasures. As Goda peeks into the secrets of the men and women of the residents of the boarding house through a knothole in the ceiling, he becomes interested in Minako Kiyomiya (Junko Miyashita), a noblewoman who seems to have the same sexual tendencies as himself, and the two commit murders together in order to indulge in the pleasures of immorality. A film adaptation of Ranpo Edogawa's ``Walker in the Attic,'' about a man who walks around the attic day and night, peeking into other people's lives, and even commits murder. Junko Miyashita's gaze provokes the viewer.

大正末期の浅草あたり。古い下宿館の屋根裏を、秘めやかで孤独な愉しみを求めて這い回る男・郷田三郎（石橋蓮司）がいる。郷田は天井の節穴から下宿館の住人たちの男女の秘め事を覗き見るうち、自分と同類の性癖を持つらしい貴婦人・清宮美那子（宮下順子）に興味を持ち、背徳の快楽に酔うべく二人で殺人を重ねてゆく…。夜となく昼となく天井裏を散歩し、他人の生活をのぞき、ついには殺人まで犯す男を主人公にした江戸川乱歩原作の「屋根裏の散歩者」の映画化。宮下順子のまなざしは、見る者を挑発する。

다이쇼 말기 아사쿠사 당. 낡은 시모주쿠칸의 다락방을, 은밀하고 외로운 즐거움을 요구해 기어다니는 남자·고다 사부로(이시바시 렌지)가 있다. 고향은 천장의 절공으로부터 시모주쿠칸의 거주자들의 남녀의 비밀을 들여다보는 중, 자신과 동류의 성버릇을 가지는 것 같은 귀부인·기요미야 미나코(미야시타 준코)에 흥미를 가져, 배덕의 쾌락에 취하기 위해 둘이서 살인을 거듭해 간다. 밤 없이 낮과 없이 천장 뒷면을 산책해, 타인의 생활을 들여다보며, 마침내 살인까지 저지르는 남자를 주인공으로 한 에도가와 란호 원작의 「지붕 뒤의 산책자」의 영화화. 미야시타 준코의 눈빛은 보는 사람을 도발한다.
